Pupil Voice

Children know each other well at Bretforton and ensure that they look after one another by demonstrating the school values of Respect, Perseverance, Responsibility, Friendship, Trust and Forgiveness. They are trusted to undertake leadership roles and older children are encouraged to act as positive role models for their younger peers, enjoying responsibilities as Lunchtime Play Leaders, House Captains and members of a highly pro-active Eco Committee. We will shortly be launching our Pupil Parliament which will be elected by the children in each class.

The children and staff at Bretforton Village School work hard to be eco-friendly citizens and to consider our environment and sustainability issues within the curriculum. We have been part of the Eco Schools programme for many years and have seen first-hand the benefits this gives our pupils. We have an active Eco Committee made up of pupils from Year 1 to Year 5. We hold elections each year where children who are interested in joining share their ideas and the whole school then votes for the new members. We have worked with Worcestershire County Councils Sustainability Team as a mentor school to offer support and advice to other schools in our district. We welcome teachers to visit who are keen to develop their eco work within their schools and support them with using their outside space to enhance their children’s learning experiences. The Eco Team enjoys sharing our eco achievements with our visitors and plays a valuable role within school promoting environmental issues.

In addition, we now have a team of Mental Health Ambassadors who have been trained to support other children on a daily basis, if they are feeling anxious or have concerns. They are able to signpost children to staff who can support them further as needed. 

Children in Year 4 and Year 5 also act as school librarians and promote the importance of regular reading, helping children to select library books. There is an application process for this role where children have to demonstrate their commitment and interest.
